1964 Asian Styled Ranch

Modesto, CA

We attended this amazing estate sale in January 2010. This estate sale was a very exciting one because it was located in a very opulent part of town that I normally would not visit. The neighborhood was started sometime in the late 1950s and boomed in the 1980s-today, so there are very few older homes in the neighborhood. With the exception of this one!

This home belonged to Mr. and Mrs. Kamps, the original owners with an affinity for Asian design. The house was decorated ONCE in 1964 and not one thing was changed (except the kitchen, it was disappointing). We were simply mesmerized by the intact nature of this home. And of course with a house filled to the rim of amazing vintage things, lots followed us home from the sale, maybe even a bit too much stuff!

The pool was in the front coutyard, the back opened up to the golf course. Check out those cool tikis!

I love built in planters in mid century homes.

I wanted this light fixture sooo bad!

  1. FABULOUS! I love this style of architecture and, sadly, most Hawaiian-Modern or Oriental-Modern or Polynesian-Modern or Tropical-Modern or whatever you want to call them, mid-century homes have been ruined in an attempt to make them into Cape Cod -Spanish - Home Depot style homes. Here the owners have been faithful to the design theme and have allowed a treasure to survive! Thanks for sharing this.
